Side channel pump for chemical transfer

It is interesting how some everyday products use hazardous chemicals in their manufacturing processes. One such particularly unpleasant chemical is methyl acrylic. This liquid is an irritant to skin, toxic if swallowed, has harmful fumes, and is highly flammable!

Obviously, this is a chemical that requires careful handling at all stages, especially when being transferred.

So, when a manufacturer of medical and hygienic absorbent pads came to us for a solution for pumping methyl acrylic, our choice was a seal-less magnetic-drive side channel pump from Dickow. Specifically, the WPM h 203 constructed from 316 stainless steel, close coupled to a 0.37 kW, 1450 rpm, ATEX Zone 1 motor.

The Dickow WPM h 203 has the seal-less leak-free construction necessary for handling such a hazardous chemical, is available ATEX compliant, and its side channel design means it has a low NPSH requirement. The pump was supplied with a thermistor fitted 0.37 kW 4 pole 400 volt 3 phase 50 Hz IP55 ATEX zone 1 motor on a baseplate.
